Burnley are probably the Premier League club mentioned least in the world media.
Therefore, when there are claims over a transfer offer it deserves more attention than some other clubs, because it’s very unlikely an agent or media company will have plucked Burnley from thin air.
Monday’s edition of Marca reports that Burnley have recently made an ‘important offer’ for Marc Cucurella.
The 21 year old came through La Masia after moving from Espanyol as a youngster. Having impressed enough with Barcelona B, he moved to Eibar initially on loan.
Barca did that with the plan to sell Cucurella to Getafe, but before the deal was complete, Marca claim Burnley offered €12m.
Despite this being an ‘important offer’, the Spanish newspaper says it’s ‘the player who said no’, preferring to continue in La Liga.
He’s now on loan at Getafe, who have a €6m buying option.
Should they use that, Barcelona are still due 40% of a future sale, meaning they could buy him back easily and continue this transfer circus indefinitely.
