Trying to keep their core squad together (although it does seem they will lose Joachim Andersen to Lyon), Sampdoria are also looking around Europe to try and bolster it as best they can.
One of the areas they need a bit of reinforcement in is up front, and they have a rather unusual (at least for an Italian side) target in mind.
That man is Reading FC’s Yakou Meïté, who has been with the Royals since 2016.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the 23-year-old forward is one of the alternatives ‘valued’ by the club if they cannot secure a transfer for Zenit’s Emiliano Rigoni, who spent the first half of last season on loan at Atalanta.
The fact the Reading forward is versatile enough to play on either wing as well as through the middle will be very attractive to the Serie A side.
No potential fee is mentioned, but considering Meïté’s importance towards the back end of the season at the Madejski under José Gomes, we can’t see the Royals wanting to let him go that easily.
It’s also worth pointing out the Ivory Coast international put pen to paper to a new four-year deal in October 2018 meant to keep him at the club until 2022.
