On Friday we covered claims from SportMediaSet that Manchester United remain interested in Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

The Old Trafford side were one of a number of clubs repeatedly linked to the Lazio midfielder last summer. There were all kinds of claims and then a poor World Cup seemed to kill everything.

SportMediaSet said Lazio director of sport Iglo Tare had travelled to London to ‘settle once and for all’ the player’s situation.

The plan is to listen to some proposals coming from English clubs, with Manchester United ‘particularly’ interested.

Lazio asked for €120m a year go, according to the report, and now they’d like €100m, but would actually settle for €80m.

Corriere della Sera have a similar story today, but even more hyped up… at least at the start.

Manchester United are said to be in a ‘war’ with Juventus, Inter Milan and PSG for the player. Corriere have it slightly differently, saying Lazio wanted €150m a year ago, but would now accept €100m, agreeing with SportMediaSet that it could come down to €80m.

Lazio want to sell, worried the player’s value could fall further.

On the director’s trip, they say: ‘Tare flew to London. For personal reasons, he let us know. In fact in those parts there is talk of Milinkovic-Savic as the substitute identified by United in anticipation of the departure of Pogba’

Even Corriere point out Juventus interest is likely to have waned, and they suggest there was an agreement on terms with PSG which probably doesn’t stand now. For Inter Milan to pay anything like €80m seems very unlikely.

So this ‘war’ doesn’t really appear to be very fierce, and there’s every chance Lazio are dangling their player in the market.

Corriere della Sera say Lazio fans call Milinkovic-Savic ‘The Sergeant’, which sounds great, however, even these reports filtering from Italy make it very clear his level seriously dropped last season.
