Haberturk journalist Serdar Ali Celikler has claimed Everton made an offer for Besiktas defender Domagoj Vida during the summer transfer window, but the Turkish club rejected their proposal.

Vida was one of the key players for Croatia during the World Cup and after helping his country to the final of the competition he was linked with a move to the Premier League.

Speaking to Life+ TV, the experienced journalist said: “Everton made a €10m offer for Vida last summer. Besiktas’ board and Fikret Orman found this offer not good enough so they decided to reject it.”

Last summer there was speculation in the Turkish press Besiktas wanted at least €20m for Vida, but a move to England never materialised for the player.

Everton were one of the clubs linked with the Croatia international, but the Merseyside club instead signed Yerry Mina, and Kurt Zouma towards the end of the transfer window.

With the Toffees now covered in the central defensive positions it’s unlikely they will go back in for Vida during the next window, with recent reports there is Chinese interest in the former Dynamo Kiev player.
