Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ronny Johnsen both joined Manchester United in the summer 1996 transfer window, and both went on to win a collection of trophies with the club, including the 1999 Champions League.
Solskjaer made himself a legend in that match and will always be a fan favourite for what he achieved on the pitch and his attitude whilst at Old Trafford.
Johnsen was recognised as an excellent defender held back by recurring injuries, but still managing to have an impact at the Premier League club.
Now the former striker is thought to be on the verge of being named Manchester United’s caretaker manager, leaving Norwegian club Molde for the second time, and Johnsen believes the short stint could lead to something more permanent.
Johnsen feels the match will work well for his former club, given how well his former teammate knows Manchester United on and off the pitch: “They get a guy who knows the club in and out. He has done a great job at the club before, with the youth team. For me, this is gold.”
Gold has a nice ring to it.
