Celtic fell to a 3-0 loss against AS Roma at home in the Europa League on Thursday.

The Italian side dominated the first half but Wilfried Nancy’s side grew into the game in the second 45. It didn’t prove enough as Arne Engels missed a penalty and Kelechi Iheanacho had a goal disallowed for offside.

Despite signs of promise, the Italian press aren’t too impressed with Celtic’s performance.

Gazzetta dello Sport singled out Wilfried Nancy and handed him a rating of 4/10 only, worse than any player on the pitch. The famous pink Italian newspaper believe Celtic look like a disjointed team under the manager.

When it comes to players, Sebastian Tounekti was the worst with 4.5/10. They describe him as someone who saw Zeki Celik become ‘his nightmare’ in the clash.

Corriere dello Sport are kinder on the 23-year-old, but the newspaper are quite harsh on Liam Scales.

The defender is handed a poor 3/10, an unusually low rating for them. CdS tell their audience that everything went wrong for the 27-year-old, who has been described as Roma’s ‘12th man’ in the tie.

Celtic and Nancy now need to dust themselves off ahead of upcoming challenges, but some of the words from Italy will surely sting.

Everything can change quickly in football. On Thursday, the same Italian newspapers were talking Evan Ferguson up as a failure and now he’s a hero.
