OGC Nice are ‘interested in signing’ Nicolas Pépé from Arsenal but his salary is currently holding up a potential deal.

That’s according to RMC Sport, who provide their own information on the winger’s potential return to Ligue 1 today.

They explain that Nice are interested in signing Pépé and have proposed an initial loan deal to Arsenal.

They have gone for him after starting proceedings for Marcus Thuram and Edinson Cavani, and the idea is there.

Pépé ‘would welcome’ a move away from Arsenal this summer and the Gunner would be happy to see him go given his salary of a bit less of €1m gross a month is among the highest at the club.

It is that salary which is proving to be an ‘obstacle’ to the operation after they signed the likes of Aaron Ramsey and Kasper Schmeichel, as well as others, this summer.

Pépé is also in contact with several Premier League clubs while Atlético Madrid were also interested in him at the beginning of the transfer window.

In fact, his representatives met with the club, but it never went beyond that point.

That gives Nice the chance to get him out of Arsenal and a loan deal has been mooted, but the two clubs will have to work out an agreement on his wages for it to happen.
