Clearly unwanted at Tottenham despite them paying around £30m for him on transfer deadline day last summer, Moussa Sissoko needs to find another club in the coming months.

Of course, since he is under contract at the club, he could sit back and enjoy the money as it rolls in while he does very little, but with a World Cup to play for next year, first-team football is a must.

While he’s clearly a favourite of Didier Deschamps’, loyalty can only last for so long, and that’s why talk of a return to Ligue 1 has been rife.

The main protagonists in this have been Marseille, especially since they’ve expressed their interest a few times, with France Football claiming ‘contacts exist’.

The French magazine explain that Patrice Evra, who joined the club last January, has been boasting of the OM Champions Project to the Tottenham midfielder, with his transfer showing Marseille are willing to pay the wages if they think the player is worth it.

However, the €25-30m that Daniel Levy is likely to ask is a stumbling block, meaning this one could drag on, and they give this transfer a 35% chance of happening.

If Marseille find an alternative, they’ll move on swiftly. If they don’t, it’ll all be down to how desperate Mauricio Pochettino and co. are to see the back of the 27-year-old.
