On Wednesday, César Luis Merlo and A Bola both reported Benfica have reached an agreement with Aston Villa to sign Enzo Barrenechea on loan with an obligation to buy.
A Bola added the buying obligation of €15m will be triggered if certain set conditions are fulfilled.
The Aston Villa player was expected to travel to Portugal to carry out medical tests with the Eagles.
Thursday’s edition of Record claims the 24-year-old ‘arrives in Lisbon today’ to undergo medical examinations in the next few hours and will then sign the contract with Benfica.
O Jogo are also reporting the Argentine ‘arrives in Lisbon today’ to complete his move to Benfica. They add he’ll soon start training under Bruno Lage once he finishes the transfer formalities, which are scheduled to take place today.
They report Barrenechea has agreed terms for next season and will sign a contract until 2030 if the purchase obligation is exercised.
The two Portuguese newspapers differ on how the mandatory purchase obligation will be activated.
According to O Jogo, pre-agreed conditions need to be fulfilled for it be trigger, while Record make no mention of conditions for it to be activated next summer. The latter adds Aston Villa will receive 30% of profit from a future sale.
