Tottenham Hotspur are in the picture to sign Sampdoria’s Giovanni Leoni, according to multiple reports from Italy.
On June 12th, the Serie B side made the 17-year-old’s stay permanent after signing him on loan in the winter market. He made 12 appearances for the Italian club.
According to Il Secolo XIX, relayed by SampNews24, the centre-back is Sampdoria’s ‘most interesting’ player. He has caught the attention of Torino, Juventus, Inter Milan and Napoli.
The Serie A quartet have to ‘watch out for’ Tottenham, who are the only interested party from outside Italy.
La Repubblica, relayed by Club Doria 46, state the Nerazzurri are ahead in the race. They are hoping to take advantage of Inter CEO Giuseppe Marotta’s good ties with Sampdoria chairman Matteo Manfredi to try to secure Leoni’s services.
Inter aren’t alone as Parma, Napoli, Juventus, Atalanta and Torino are the youngster’s suitors from Italy. These clubs must pay attention, ‘in particular’, to Spurs, who have looked at the Italian market in the past few windows.
Their title suggests there could be a the bidding war to sign Leoni, and the interested parties must ‘watch out’ for Tottenham.
Within the report, it’s claimed Sampdoria are observing the market. If they were to sell Leoni, they are keen to take him back on loan, to help him continue his development.
