Aston Villa’s Enzo Barrenechea has show some promise during his up and down loan stint at Valencia this season.
He’s played every game bar one for the Spanish side but often only partially, and his call up to the Argentina national side during the November international break was a big surprise.
While that would come as good news for Aston Villa fans, the midfielder didn’t play a minute for Lionel Scaloni’s side and that is causing frustration in Spain.
AS note that Barrenechea travelled ‘13,000km for not a single minute’ and the midfielder will return to Valencia with a ‘strange feeling’ about how the last two weeks went.
That day, Barrenechea travelled about 1,300 kilometres and then returned to Buenos Aires. The squad then went to Peru and Barrenechea didn’t feature at all, despite having high hopes of playing in some capacity.
As a result, his ‘dream’ of playing for La Albiceleste will have to wait till the next international break in March. Due to all of this, he will train only twice with the club before playing against Real Betis at the weekend.
That is rather disappointing for the 23-year-old, but Aston Villa would still be encouraged that he is part of the Argentine setup.
Whether he will be for the next international break remains to be seen.
