1200 Ajax fans have today visited Everton’s Goodison Park to collect their tickets for the clash with Liverpool, with another 1400 yet to collect the rest.
That’s according to De Telegraaf, who say the other 1400 are fighting to make it to Merseyside for tonight’s Champions League clash.
The newspaper explains that the Dutch fans are ‘making every effort’ to attend this evening’s clash, with large queues at Schiphol airport leaving many stranded.
Some have already missed their flights and Ajax are aware some have ‘dropped out’ completely and returned home.
1200 have already made the trip to Everton’s Goodison Park to collect their tickets but Ajax have sold 2600 for the game and there are 300 ‘invited guests and relations’ to account for as well.
Delays on Monday already held up a contingent of fans, while more ‘suffered’ today courtesy of a ‘shortage of security guards’.
Fabian Nagtzaam, director of Ajax’s official supporters’ association is one such traveller and eventually made his way to Liverpool via Manchester.
Other fans, meanwhile, have taken ‘alternative routes’ such as flying via Ibiza, Mallorca, Milan and Oslo (we’ll say nothing about the latter and leave the jokes to Everton fans.)
Some fans are also doing multiple train journeys to get to Anfield, with three changes or more, to make it to Anfield.
“We see reports of all kinds of alternative routes being taken to still be there,” an Ajax spokesman told the newspaper.
“Ajax fans are creative. But of course, this situation is not fun. We are all hugely looking forward to the game at Anfield, which two years ago had to be played in an empty stadium.
“Liverpool versus Ajax is a wonderful event that is very much alive among our fans.”
