Real Zaragoza have not given up hope of securing striker Luis Suárez from Watford for another year, but have conceded their hopes are slim.
Heraldo report that the Spanish side ‘maintain a fine thread of hope’ that the striker will stay at the club next season should they be promoted to La Liga.
The Colombian is currently on loan with the Spanish side and has impressed, bagging 17 goals in all competitions thus far.
That deal ends in the summer, and they had hoped to have him for a second year, but that has become increasingly unlikely given his performances.
Numerous clubs in Europe have all been credited with an interest in him, while it’s also been reported that Watford want him in their first team next season.
Heraldo cover the situation today and explain that while Zaragoza haven’t given up hope, the operation is ‘extremely complex’ due to several factors.
One of those is their own ‘negotiating weakness’ while Watford’s desire, primarily from their owner, to bring him back to the club permanently or so that they can secure a sale in the summer is also a factor.
Then there is Lazio. They are the side that have pushed hardest, and according to the newspaper they already have a five-year agreement with the player, echoing reports that said the same in Italy.
Essentially there are numerous reasons why it’s hard for them to keep hold of the striker, and as such, they’ve now targeted a replacement in Moreirense striker Fabio Abreu.
That would indicate they feel he will be heading back to Watford at some point, although for how long remains to be seen.
