Manchester United signed Facundo Pellistri from Penarol in October 2020, with the Red Devils beating competition for the attacker’s signature.
In the first half of the season, the Uruguayan made six appearances for the club’s PL2 side, scoring two goals and adding an assist in the process.
By January it was concluded that the youngster needed a better chance of senior football, and therefore a loan was deemed the next step. Multiple clubs were interested in the deal, with Alaves beating others in Spain to secure Pellistri.
He made 12 appearances for the La Liga side, totalling 539 minutes, and following a muscle injury his time on the pitch faded towards the end of the campaign.
Another loan for next season is the assumed course of action, however, there’s no agreement as it stands to continue with the Spanish club.
Alaves have announced Pellistri will be returning to Manchester United, and state the following on their official website: ‘He landed in Mendizorrotza in the winter market. He has played 12 games as albiazul, in which he has shown his talent and impudence in one on ones. A muscle injury hampered his performance in the final stretch of the course.’
Whether Pellistri secures a loan quickly or goes through preseason with his parent club remains unclear.
