Leaving Arsenal in the summer on a free transfer, Yassin Fortune signed a four year contract with FC Sion in Switzerland.
Never making a professional appearance for the Gunners, the 19-year-old did feature eight times for the U23s, but never found the back of the net for them.
Letting his contract run down, Fortune decided to go looking for first-team football, finding it with the Swiss club, who have already handed him three appearances since the start of the season, including his first start at the weekend against FC Luzern.
Helping his new side end a five game losing streak with a 3-1 win, Fortune also scored his first goal at professional level, putting his team out of sight in 64th minute with a strong near post finish.
Asked how that felt by 20 Minutes after the game, he said: “An intense joy, sincerely. For me, it’s a dream come true. I can assure you. To be honest, I’m still struggling to believe it. I can’t wait to see it again. There’s that nice pass from Bastien Toma, and I finish it well. I’m simply very happy”.
Fortune will now be looking at Sunday’s game against Neuchatel Xamax to build on this performance, hoping his goal earn him yet another start.
