Lukasz Bejger joined Manchester United from Lech Poznan in 2018, and just two weeks ago the Premier League club confirmed he’d be leaving to return to Poland.
This time, Bejger is signing for Slask Wroclaw, and has been released from his deal at Old Trafford.
The 19-year-old never managed to debut with the English club, and wasn’t being given many opportunities to progress towards the first team. It became clear for the defender that he needed to move elsewhere to try and gain experience and build his young career.
Bejger has granted an interview to Polish newspaper Przeglad Sportowy, and one of the first questions asked was how hard it is to leave a club the size of Manchester United. Not shying away from the fact it was a big decision, he explained: “When deciding to return to Poland, I looked mainly at the development prospects.
“I was wondering where I could start my senior career. Yes, MU is one of the largest clubs in the world and it was not easy to say goodbye, but at the moment I do not regret it. I was welcomed in Silesia and I benefit from every day of my stay here. I hope to get a chance to play soon.”
Przeglad Sportowy asked an interesting question regarding what type of player Bejger wants to be, asking him to pick from Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly: “Lindelof. I have a style similar to him: I like to have the ball at my feet, lead the ball from my own goal. This is what I used to follow when I was in Manchester. Victor is the opposite of Bailly.
“When United play against an opponent who, for example, from five metres, sends long balls to the forward, Eric plays more often to win such strength and head matches. Victor is exposed to matches when the team is counterattacking. He’s fast, so more useful in such situations.”
Asked whether development was no longer possible whilst with Red Devils, Bejger said: “I wanted to jump to senior football, I felt it was the right time. In Manchester, I couldn’t have it because I didn’t train with the first team on a daily basis.
“I wanted to jump into adult football as soon as possible. Nobody from Manchester kicked me out, the transfer was my initiative.”
