Today, we’ve seen a couple of reports from the Portuguese media claiming Leeds United submitted a bid for the signing of Porto midfielder Otavio.
It was said that the Whites tried to sign the player with a €30m offer, which was turned down by the Dragons, who expect a lot more from him.
Otávio had another positive year with Porto in a season where they won the league title, so it’s natural that his transfer to a more attractive league continues being a topic in the local press.
So now we see a few comments from ex-Porto player Pedro Henriques about the midfielder’s future, and despite not mentioning the interest from Leeds United, he named some other clubs the Portugal international could represent.
“Otávio wouldn’t do worse than other players. I’m including from Real Madrid, Manchester City, Barcelona or Liverpool,” said Pedro Henriques (via Bancada).
“In any of these teams, Otávio would play and wouldn’t play worse than any of the starters, but it’s a good thing for FC Porto that most people don’t think so.”
“Clearly there are a lot of distracted people there and that’s good for FC Porto because Otávio is a very complete player and would fit in almost all the best European teams that are the best in the world.”
Otávio is protected by Porto with a €60m release clause, and according to local reports, that’s how much the Dragons will demand for his sale.
So if Leeds are really keen on signing him, they better bring their offer up.
