Steve Walsh’s work at Everton so far has been met with mixed reactions. The transfer guru has to take some blame for things going wrong at the club earlier this season, even if at times it seems there’s a distinct effort to keep him ‘clean’ of the negativity.
One bright spark for Walsh has been Henry Onyekuru’s development at Anderlecht. Signed by Everton from Eupen during the last summer transfer window, Onyekuru was sent on loan to Anderlecht for the whole of the current season.
The striker has hinted repeatedly that he’d quite fancy switching to Everton in January, but work permit issues and the Anderlecht contract have meant that’s been a difficult dream to fulfil.
Now things have taken a turn for the worse. Onyekuru is set to have an operation to fix a medial knee ligament problem and now faces a lengthy period out, which is obviously a big worry for Everton.
Whilst the official word is that his return date is unknown, DH in Belgium say he’s likely to be out of action for several months.
