Wolverhampton Wanderers have become the latest club to join the chase for Club Atlético Tigre’s Mateo Retegui.

For the past few days, Genoa have been pushed forward as his next possible destination.

Olé in Argentina state they had ‘everything agreed’ for a deal around $15m [€13.5m] before Wolves joined the transfer race.

It’s stated Julen Lopetegui’s side have tabled a $18m [€16.2m] bid but the percentage of the fee from the striker’s future sale is lower than the one proposed by the Italian club.

The report states the two teams are fighting for the 24-year-old and it’s a ‘matter of filing details’ to close the deal with Wolves or Genoa.

Beyond the financial factor, Olé say both Wolves and Genoa have other factors to ‘seduce’ the Argentina-born Italy international to join them.

A move to Molineux will see the frontman play in the best league while playing in Serie A will ‘keep him closest’ to the national team. The newspaper adds he’ll travel to Europe in the ‘next few hours’ to define his future with one of the two clubs.

Apart from Wolves, Aston Villa are another Premier League side also chasing the player. On Friday, TNT Sports stated Unai Emery’s side want Retegui and are ready to offer more money to beat competition from Genoa.

Retegui managed 12 goals and an assist from 25 games this year.
