On Saturday we covered a claim from Italy that Wolves are interested in AC Milan’s Ignazio Abate. The 31 year old right back has a contract until June 2019 and has been at the Italian club since 2009.
The claims came from GazzaMercato, and, as we pointed out, that’s not exactly the most reliable source in Italy. It’s a little like the cheeky younger cousin of Gazzetta dello Sport, where rumours the newspaper doesn’t want to touch can end up.
But, there’s now a second source claiming Wolves interest in Abate.
Il Mattino say the newly promoted Premier League club are keen, but aren’t able to given any further information on the situation.
There’s every chance Abate’s contractual situation could have a lot to do with these claims. The player and his agent would be expecting Milan to speak him soon and offer a further year on his current deal, or least that’s what they’ll likely be hoping for.
Getting the idea out there of interest from other clubs could give Milan the nudge they need.
And Wolves are as good a club as any to link.
