Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Roderick Miranda is reportedly being investigated for match-fixing accusations in Portugal.

As reported by newspaper Correio da Manhã on Friday, the 26-year-old Wolves defender is one of the four former Rio Ave players who would allegedly be responsible for the team’s loss against Feirense back in February this year.

Alleged ‘inducements and payments’ are being investigated by the Polícia Judiciária do Porto, who took hold of the players’ phones to check if there’s any proof they had involvement in the result.

The reason for the intervention was the ‘atypical volume’ of bets on this game, which led the gambling houses to suspend all of them.

But according to Correio da Manhã, and in good news for the Wolves player, the police couldn’t find much on the phones. As told by their local sources, the fact that the bets were suspended is used as a warning for those involved to delete any kind of trail.

As the investigation seems to be in its really early stages, the newspaper doesn’t even mention how these players could possibly be punished by the Portuguese justice system.

It’s also not entirely clear why the Wolves player has been picked out. Still, it’s not the best situation for Roderick Miranda
