Over the summer the Portuguese media was full of stories about Wolves. It’s not often the case that a Championship club gets so much coverage in Portugal, and it was all thanks to Jorge Mendes.
The agent helped Wolves recruit players from the Portuguese league, and one of those was Helder Costa. The 22 year old winger had previously been on loan to La Liga club Deportivo La Coruna, and Ligue 1’s AS Monaco.
Benfica are very well stocked on the wings, and Postiga needed to find another option to get much needed playing time.
The idea from Benfica is that Costa will grow with the added experience and then maybe fight his way into their team, or be sold for a reasonable amount.
The player has been speaking to Portuguese newspaper O Jogo. Asked if he thinks about Benfica, Costa explained that he needs to keep his mind on the current task: “If I do not assert myself here, for sure I will not have chance to one day return to Benfica.
“I have to play and do my best to achieve our goals… my head must be 100% Wolves.”
O Jogo asked Costa what he would choose between playing in the Premier League next year, or returning to the Portuguese giants: “Benfica, of course! Without thinking twice.”
