As Wolverhampton Wanderers’ interest in the Portuguese market goes on, we now get to see that an official from Molineux side had been working in Lisbon last night.
That’s because, according to newspaper Record, Wolves sent a scout to watch the Champions League clash between Benfica and Bayern Munich at the Estádio da Luz.
The result was, of course, a disaster for the Eagles, who lost 4-0 at home and will now have an even more difficult to job to fight for qualification in such a complicated group.
Now for the officials from the Premier League side, there was certainly a lot to see on the pitch, in a game where they could watch the talents who had a fair display in a quite adverse challenge.
Even though Wolves are frequently chasing players from the Portuguese League, the only local star who was linked to the club this summer was Haris Seferovic, who was ruled out of last night’s game due to injury.
Now with Bruno Lage in charge of the Molineux side, it’s obvious that the former Benfica boss knows very well whom to keep an eye on in the Eagles’ squad.
Last night’s 4-0 defeat clearly shows there were no delightful displays from any players from the home side. Record highlights the performances from goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos, defender Lucas Veríssimo, midfielder João Mário and striker Darwin Nunez.
Those are the names who can’t really be blamed for such a disappointing result.
Now if Wolves were really interested in any of them, they better get back to Lisbon soon and try to watch a more favourable performance.
