Wolverhampton Wanderers had scouts in attendance for Porto’s clash with Sporting Club de Portugal last night.
That’s according to A Bola, who say Bruno Lage’s side were one of the teams who sent scouts to watch the ‘appetising’ clash between the two.
According to them, Wolves, alongside Manchester United, Tottenham and Southampton, all sent ‘spies’ to watch the clash, which was settled by a late Toni Martinez strike.
Who the Premier League sides were there to monitor isn’t made clear, but we’d hazard a guess it was one of Joao Palhinha and Matheus Nunes at Sporting.
Both players have impressed for the Portuguese side this season, and Wolves are known to be admirers of the pair if reports in Portugal are to be believed.
Back in February, it was reported they were maintaining their ‘long term pursuit’ of Palhinha, and that was backed up earlier this month when Nunes was brought into the mix.
That was followed by a report stating Nunes had turned down the idea of a move to Molineux, although Palhinha is known to be thinking differently.
It’s also worth mentioning that reports in England have stated Wolves are keen on the Sporting pair, potentially as replacements for Joao Moutinho and Ruben Neves if they leave this summer.
On the face of it, Wolves scouting big games in Portugal is not all that surprising given the contingent of Portuguese players and staff at the club as well as their links to Jorge Mendes.
There are plenty of links to Palhinha and Nunes in the last few months, though, and we’d be comfortable suggesting it was those two they were there to watch last night as a result.
