When Adama Traore joined Barcelona on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers back in January, he had such a good start at the Camp Nou side that the local media sounded very optimistic about a permanent move this summer.

The 26-year-old, however, couldn’t keep up such good form, and soon lost his starting place in the team. Now as he looks to prove himself once again, his spell hit a new low at the weekend.

Traore not only stayed on the bench for Barcelona’s 2-1 win over Mallorca, but wasn’t even called to warm up. That’s the reason why he was seen speaking to Xavi Hernandez’s brother, Oscar, after the match.

As Sport writes about the situation, they point out the player was ‘very upset’, but is hopeful he can prove to the manager he deserves staying in the squad for next season.

The outlet writes that right now, ‘it seems very difficult’ for him to be kept by Barcelona for longer, as this option wasn’t easy ‘at any time’.

To sign Traore from Wolves, the Camp Nou side would have to find a formula to pay little, and one of the options had been a potential swap involving Francisco Trincão, who’s currently loaned at the Molineux side.

Sport insists that Traore will continue being an option for Xavi until the end of the season. However, as things stand, he’s expected to soon be back in Bruno Lage’s squad.
