Wolverhampton Wanderer’s relationship with Jorge Mendes could come to the fore again this summer and bring Valencia’s Goncalo Guedes to the club.
That’s according to Plaza Deportiva, who cover the situation today and how the Portuguese forward could end up at Molineux.
They explain that, with the season about to come to an end and the Euros looming, Guedes’ future is ‘coming to a boil’.
The newspaper has learned that Valencia have ‘sent a message to the market’ that Guedes is available to the highest bidder, and so the auction has begun.
Wolves are likely to be a part of that auction due to the relationship between their owner Guo Guangchang and Guedes’ agent Jorge Mendes.
As we know, the Portuguese agent has moved a long list of his fellow countryman to the club in recent years, and they are considered as part of his ‘client network’.
Guangchang owns 20% of Gestifute through the company Shanghai Foyo, and his relationship with Mendes has ‘propelled’ Wolves to the Premier League and led to the large Portuguese influence in the dressing room.
As such, Guedes is a name already on the table ahead of the summer, and Wolves are ‘evaluating his purchase’, with it, felt the Premier League is the market that can offer Valencia what they are looking for.
Valencia are adamant that Guedes will not be sold on the cheap and want more than €20m to cover the amount that remains to be ‘amortised’ in the €40m deal that brought him from PSG.
The French giants are seen as an ‘obstacle’ to a transfer, given they own a percentage on any future transfer, pushing up Guedes’ asking price.
For Valencia to ‘make money’, they will be obliged to get at least €25m, after which it will be all profit for them.
That is difficult, though, as the market is weighed down post-COVID-19, so there is haggling to be done for all parties, and Mendes will have to work his magic if a sale is to happen.
Wolves will be a part of the conversation regardless, though, with Sevilla also having taken note but yet to go further than that.
