Having already fished in the Atalanta pond last year for Timothy Castagne, Leicester City decided to try and do so again this year for one of their players.
That would be Robin Gosens, who would end up on the other side of the defence to his former Belgian teammate
The 26-year-old left-back has landed on Brendan Rodgers’ radar ahead of the summer, and there were claims that talks had already started between the two clubs.
Atalanta are said to have fixed a €25m price for the defender, who boasts 11 goals and six assists in 31 Serie A appearances this season, and while negotiations were well underway, there could be some doubt now.
That’s according to Calciomercato, who report that because the Foxes are ‘no longer certain of a place in the Champions League, the advantage accumulated in the talks could disperse’.
That, in turn, could ‘facilitate the return of the flame of clubs like Juventus’, who have been ‘monitoring’ the German for some time.
Therefore, it seems Leicester City might need to qualify for the Champions League if they stand a chance at signing the full-back.
