We’re not sure if Wolverhampton Wanderers fans can still keep track of the several players from the Portuguese league who are linked to the club every week. Still, some of our readers may remember the chase for Pelé.
Linked to the club for two years, the player has always been one of the cards in Jorge Mendes’ deck, having made moves from clubs where the agent has big influence, Benfica and Rio Ave.
Some recent claims have said Pelé was ‘on his way to Wolverhampton’, with a deal between Wolves and Rio Ave being ‘pratically concluded’.
But for some reason, things went totally quiet. And now, the the 26-year-old is apparently on his way to Monaco.
Newspaper Record now claims the move to Monaco is ‘imminent’, with the French side paying €10m for the transfer.
The outlet writes that Wolverhampton were in the race, and their bid would give Rio Ave €3.5m, but the talks haven’t developed very well. Although they don’t make it clear, the offer must have been €7m, because Benfica get 50% of a sale.
Even though Pelé’s agent is Ulisses Santos, Record says that the deal is being handled by Jorge Mendes, which isn’t exactly surprising, given the clubs involved.
