Wolves want to sign Christian Kouame from Fiorentina in the summer transfer window, according to claims from La Nazione on Tuesday.

The newspaper, local to the Florence club, state Nuno Espirito Santo’s side want to sign the player ‘outright’, meaning it would be a full transfer. That would be fine with La Viola, however, according to the report, Wolves’ offer ‘does not reach €15m’.

It’s not made explicitly clear by La Nazione, but the suggestion seems to be that a minimum of €15m would be needed to sign Kouame in the coming months.

The 23-year-old was on the verge of moving to Crystal Palace in the winter 2020 market, before a serious knee injury ruined his chances. Fiorentina then took him on a loan move from Genoa, with a buying obligation.

That was a complete gamble, given the injury, and Kouame wasn’t able to find the back of the net for Fiorentina until the final Serie A match of last season. This season he’s only scored once in 33 league matches, which by any means is a poor return.

Playing as either the main striker, or just off a frontman, he’s also only managed to contribute a single assist.

Therefore, just like for Fiorentina, it would be a gamble for Wolves, and that’s perhaps why La Nazione sound surprised the club would be looking at an ‘outright’ deal.
