Ever since Fábio Silva swapped Porto for Wolverhampton Wanderers, the Portuguese’s starlet has started to slowly go downhill.

The youngster started off his career with the Liga Portugal side brightly, which led to Wolves spending €40m to try and beat the growing competition around him.

Helped by a certain Jorge Mendes, the Premier League side won the race, but in 62 appearances, he only managed four goals and six assists.

That’s why they decided to send him on loan this season, back when Bruno Lage was still in charge, and opted for RSC Anderlecht in Belgium, where there was a feeling he could gain confidence and get his career back on track.

While he has scored 10 goals in 29 appearances, his general performances haven’t been all that, and his latest really has the Belgian press scratching their head.

The belief is that Anderlecht really need help up front, and Silva is one of the issues, as explained by Walfoot on Thursday.

They write that the Wolves loanee is ‘worrying a bit’, because the last game he played in, against Genk, was perhaps ‘one of his least successful’ of the current campaign.

The 20-year-old is ‘everywhere except in the right place and seems to have totally lost the confidence’ he showed earlier on in the season.

What’s also a problem for Anderlecht is that he has no competition for the role, as Sebastiano Esposito is expected to return to Inter and Benito Raman is nothing but a super-sub for the time being.

This should all be rather worrying for Wolves, who will have been hoping for a whole lot more, and it could cause Julen Lopetegui a bit of a headache when the Portuguese striker ultimately returns to Molineux in the summer.
