Benfica defender Ruben Dias is not expecting to leave the club this summer, according to reports from Portugal on Thursday.
Despite being recently linked to the likes of Manchester United and Wolverhampton Wanderers, the defender is mentally prepared to stay with the Eagles, as reported by newspaper A Bola.
His stay at the club should happen regardless of signing a new contract or not, as the new deal would continue to be negotiated after the Super Cup on Sunday.
When returning to Benfica this summer, Ruben Dias had a new contract waiting for him. But he didn’t feel like he was getting a decent pay raise when considering his release clause was being increased from €66m to €88m.
This current release clause is a reason why both Manchester United and Wolves get a mention in A Bola’s story. The newspaper says the amount can easily be afforded by both sides.
A Bola also mentions his agent Jorge Mendes is usually involved in deals with the two clubs. But the possibility of a move isn’t really taken seriously by the outlet, since the player is convinced he’s staying for at least one more year.
