Wolverhampton Wanderers have made an approach for the America defender Edson Álvarez, according to the Mexican media.
Outlet Medio Tiempo claims that according to people close to the player, Wolves have contacted America to know the conditions for a deal.
It’s said that Álvarez signed a new deal with the Mexican side last month, and it means that the Premier League club would have to pay over US$10m to trigger his release clause.
Medio Tiempo writes that with so many competitions to be played next season, including the Europa League, Nuno Espírito Santo wants to enhance his squad, and Álvarez would be one of the targets for the defensive line.
The 21-year-old comes from America’s academy, and was crucial for the club last season, having made 46 appearances.
Wolves’ chase for the player is being widely reported in Mexico, but it looks like Medio Tiempo is the only one with fresh news. Even newspaper Record brings a story about the interest today, but it sounds like they’re just taking Medio Tiempo’s claims.
