On Thursday, Argentine journalist Cesar Luis Merlo revealed Wolverhampton Wanderers’ interest in Velez Sarsfield’s midfielder Maximo Perrone.
It was claimed Wolves were ‘negotiating’ for a deal, and regardless of a purchase now, he’d still finish the season with the South American side and only move next year.
Argentine newspaper Olé went after more information, and it turns out they ended up finding more about Wolves interest in the player.
First of all, it’s claimed that people at Velez Sarsfield confirm some ‘informal contact’ from the Molineux side to get information on the midfielder. However, they also made it clear that no official bid was made yet.
The Argentine club also assured that the plan is not to lose any players right now, since they’re in Copa Libertadores’ semi-finals.
Moreover, Olé managed to speak to Perrone’s entourage. They highlighted that the player is followed by ‘many clubs’ from Europe, and Wolves’ interest ‘exists and is concrete’.
Velez aren’t a club who often get that far in the Copa Libertadores, so it’s natural they’ll fight to keep their best players during this final stretch of the campaign. That means it’d be undoubtedly easier for Bruno Lage’s side to land the player in case they’re patient and wait, at least, until January.
