Some Wolverhampton Wanderers fans may remember the news about their reported attempt to sign Paulinho from Braga last month.
It was claimed by the Portuguese media that the move was ‘practically concluded’, as the Premier League side would trigger his €30m release clause.
Things went quiet since then. And even though there have been a few other stories about this chase, there was never an explanation about what really happened at that stage for the transfer to look so close.
But newspaper A Bola brings an explanation for it today, claiming that Wolves is still the ‘likely destination’ for the 27-year-old.
It’s said Wolves put themselves in a ‘favourable position’ when trying to sign the player, but when the transfer was close to being done, they tried to lower the price.
Braga are reportedly insistent they’re not letting Paulinho go for less than €30m, and that saw the process ‘frozen’.
A Bola claim Wolves haven’t given up on the signing and continue to be interested in the striker, but the transfer should also depend on the sale of Raúl Jiménez.
Paulinho had 25 goals and nine assists in 48 appearances for Braga this season, and it’s no surprise they wouldn’t give Wolves a big discount.
