Since joining Wolverhampton Wanderers in July 2019, things have gone drastically downhill for Patrick Cutrone.
The Italian striker was highly regarded at AC Milan, which made his move to Wolves all the more shocking at the time, but is yet to get his career properly going.
A short and unsuccessful spell at Molineux led to him being shipped out to Fiorentina in January of this year, that deal including an option to buy.
He’s struggled there too, though, with just five goals and three assists in 34 appearances.
That’s led to the club deeply questioning whether they should make his move a permanent one, with reports over the last few weeks making it pretty clear that won’t be happening and he’ll be getting moved on in January.
Today it’s Corriere dello Sport’s turn, who, while not explicitly stating that he’ll be sent back to Wolves, hint very heavily that it will be the case.
They explain that Cutrone, who is currently out with lumbago, is out of the picture under Cesare Prandelli.
The Italian coach has settled on a different team without the loanee, and this has ‘adds to the repeated difficulties’ for the Wolves man.
He is struggling to find his place at the club, and this has led to ‘obvious doubts for the immediate future’ with the transfer market just around the corner.
These doubts are only compelled by the stats, with Cutrone having failed to start a game all season and starting all of Prandelli’s eight games on the bench.
Indeed, he’s managed just 281 minutes of football in total this year, and four in his last three games, which is hardly indicative of a player the club is desperate to keep.
All indications are that Fiorentina are desperate to get rid and avoid the purchase clause in the loan deal, with it looking increasingly likely Wolves will have to find the striker a new home in January.
