Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Jonny Otto has revealed he feels ‘strong’ as he battles to return from a knee injury.
The Spanish full-back is yet to feature for Wolves this season, having been out injured with a cruciate injury that saw him undergo surgery back in August.
He made a return to light training back in December and has been working his way back to fitness since then, with hopes he could return before the end of the season.
And speaking to Radio Vigo, relayed by El Desmarque, he said he ‘feels good’ and ‘eager’ after starting training with the rest of the team.
He also added that he is ‘happy with the evolution’ and that he feels ‘strong’ but still has a little time remaining before he can return to the pitch as it is ‘a complicated injury and the longer it passes the better.’
The Spanish defender joined Wolves in an £18.9m deal from Atletico Madrid in 2019 and has been a regular for them since, with 87 appearances in all competitions to date.
He arrived at the club alongside several other big signings that summer, including Rui Patricio from Sporting Lisbon and Diogo Jota, who was also with Atlético at the time.
Signing Portuguese players, in particular, has been a regular thing for Wolves down the years, with their relationship with super-agent Jorge Mendes having seen numerous players make the move to Molineux.
Indeed, at this moment in time, there are no fewer than eight Portuguese players in the squad, with Fabio Silva, Vitinha and Nelson Semedo joining the contingent in the summer.
It is something Otto says is a major benefit.
“Reaching a squad that was not English helped me a lot,” he added.
“You come to an English club, but half of the members are Portuguese, the coach is also Portuguese, and that helped me.
“All the people around the team are very friendly and close. They welcomed me as one of them. The truth is that we are very settled.
“I always said that I would like to be able to try in the Premier and the truth is I am very happy to be here.”
