Napoli defender Faouzi Ghoulam ‘dreams of England and Wolverhampton Wanderers’ with it highly likely he will leave the Italian side this summer.
Napoli are keen to offload as many players as possible in the rest of this transfer window, having spent big to bring Victor Osimhen to the club.
They currently have a squad of 36 and, according to La Repubblica at least 15 of those need to be moved on as the accounts ‘do not add up’.
Centre back Kalidou Koulibaly is chief among those they are trying to ship out, but there are numerous others, and Ghoulam is among them.
He’s out of favour under Gennaro Gattuso and needs to find a new club. That is where Wolves come in, with them having been linked for several weeks and Corriere Dello Sport stated yesterday that his agent Jorge Mendes was working on a deal.
That report claimed the Portuguese agent was trying to find a way to terminate his contract, which is worth around €12m plus bonuses.
La Repubblica back that up, stating that he is ‘negotiating’ with the Italian side to make that happen as he ‘dreams’ of a move to England and Molineux specifically.
Whether that is because he is desperate to play under Nuno Espirito Santo or because Mendes has convinced him the club is the ideal place for him, given he’ll be among the ever-growing list of Mendes clients at the club, isn’t mentioned.
Either way, it seems he’s keen on the move and Wolves have found an ideal replacement for Jonny Otto following his injury.
