This week’s edition of France Football had a feature on Euro 2016 players and possible transfers.
Julian Draxler was linked with interest from Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal, but then what would a French magazine, albeit an absolutely excellent one, know about a German player at a German club potentially going to England?
Well, German magazine SportBild have joined in.
Draxler is an attacking midfielder who can play on either wing or further forward. Manchester United probably aren’t crying out for such a player, especially after signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
It would take exits for a transfer to fully make sense, but then exits are expected.
However, Wolfsburg really don’t want to sell. Really, really don’t want to sell. The club’s sporting director Klaus Allofs insists that they’re building a team, not taking one apart and he plans to keep to his word, although Andre Schurrle may be off to Dortmund if BVB offer enough.
But Allofs is a realist and accepts Draxler will have dreams beyond Wolfsburg, with SportBild quoting him as saying: “It is clear that Wolfsburg is not the end of his dreams – neither was Schalke. There are clubs like Real Madrid, FC Barcelona or one or other club from England. But Julian knows exactly how the contractual situation is. He has a long-term contract with us. We plan to stick with it!”
Draxler’s contract lasts until June 2020, there’s no room for doubt or pressure on that front. If Manchester United or anyone else wanted him this summer then the fee would surely have to be huge.
HUGE.
