Two days ago, AS reported that Ander Iturraspe of Athletic Bilbao could make a switch to Leeds United in the summer.
His contract with the La Liga outfit will expire at the end of the season and he’s so far not committed his future to the Basque club, meaning he can join the Whites on a free transfer.
Another Spanish outlet El Gol Digital now claims the Championship side’s manager Marcelo Bielsa is thinking about the defensive midfielder, especially if the English club is promoted to the Premier League.
Leeds are currently on top of the table with 73 points after 36 games, one point ahead of Norwich City and two points ahead of Sheffield United, who are sitting in third spot.
The 30-year-old has spent over a decade with Athletic’s first team and has already played under the Leeds coach, when the Argentine was in charge at San Mames between 2011 and 2013.
Iturraspe was a regular inclusion in the lineup under Bielsa, but that no longer seems to be the case as he has been restricted to just two league appearances this season.
El Gol that ‘without doubt’ the opportunity to join another club, especially where his former coach is managing, ‘would be great’ for Iturraspe.
