After all the drama around Fulham striker Raul Jiménez’s return to the Mexican national team, it appears all that was needed was a goal.

That’s at least if the reaction from Record and Esto are anything to go by, with both lavishing praise on the Fulham striker today.

First Record, who report that Jiménez returned to the Mexican national team in the ‘best possible way’ as not only did he break a scoring drought, but he also shone for 82 minutes in the win over the USA.

He was ‘without a doubt the best player’, opening the scoring with a free kick in the 22n minute and even tried a scissor kick in search of a second.

In the first half he ‘showed he was at an excellent level’ by creating several dangerous moments and coming close to assists. He managed that with his assist for César Huerta to add the second of the game.

Jiménez was substituted off to applause from everyone in the stadium. That’s a stark change given the majority of the fanbase were questioning why he was back in the squad over the last week.

Esto go along the same lines, saying the Fulham striker was the ‘great figure’ of Mexico’s win over the USA.

He scored a great goal with his free-kick and assisted the second to help his side secure victory justify his return. The 33-year-old was certainly delighted with his contribution and the continuation of the form he’s shown at Fulham this season.

“Being able to come here to the national team and also show it here, is something that fulfils me a lot, it is what I am going to always do,” he said.

“I am going to give myself to the maximum and well, fortunately today we were given the victory, and we leave with a good taste in the mouth.”

“We are going to continue doing what we have to do on the field, we know that there will be complicated games, difficult games in which we cannot play the football we want, but hey, we are always going to go out there, to propose and always look for the victory.”
