Tottenham Hotspur’s Cristian Romero has expressed his desire of moving to La Liga.
The Argentina international was a guest on Gastón Edul’s Los Edul and TN have relayed his comments.
On Monday, Tottenham suffered a 2-1 defeat at home at the hands of Nottingham Fores and Romero was replaced after the first half.
Spurs are currently 16th in the table and can qualify for the Champions League only by winning the Europa League. They made it to the semi-final where they face FK Bodø/Glimt next month.
The centre-back is aiming to win the Europa League, to finish this season with Tottenham on a positive note.
“I try to take it one day at a time. There are two months left until the end of the season, and my focus is always on performing at my best and finishing in the best possible way,” he said.
“We’re in the Europa League semi-finals; it’s an important step for the club, after so many years of waiting to reach this stage. I’d like to win it.”
The World Cup winner joined Tottenham on loan from Atalanta in 2021 and his stay there was made permanent a year later. After his spells in Italy and England, Romero is eyeing a move to Spain, probably in the summer window.
“After this, we’ll see. I haven’t spoken to my agent yet, but I’m willing to do anything. My focus is on growing, but I don’t want to talk about that. I’d love to play in the Spanish league. I’d love to compete in all the top leagues,” Romero explained.
The defender has a contract until 2027, and recent claims from AS stated he’s the priority target for Atlético Madrid manager Diego Simeone. They also reported Romero is open to joining them in the next window.
Atlético should be pleased with the South American’s latest comments.
