The wife of Aston Villa forward Jota Peleteiro has revealed he has undergone surgery to get rid of a hernia problem.
Jota joined Villa during the summer transfer window in a move from fierce rivals Birmingham City.
He’s made seven appearances in all competitions for Villa so far this season and been a part of the match-day squad for all eight of their Premier League games to date.
The last three fixtures have seen him sitting on the bench though, failing to make an appearance against either Arsenal, Burnley or Norwich.
He then sparked worry among Aston Villa fans when he posted a picture on Instagram from a hospital bed, despite the fact there was no news, or updates from the club, about a possible injury.
Now his wife, Jessica Bueno, has revealed on Instagram why he was there in the first place, with it transpiring the Aston Villa man has been playing with two hernias for more than a year.
“This man, my man, stubborn and strong, has been training every day for more than a year and giving everything in every game with tremendous pain in the pubis, which did not let him sleep,” she posted to her followers.
“You cannot imagine the pain and courage he had to have to continue when he was suffering from two hernias.
“He has been playing for more than a year without anyone noticing anything, playing as he knows, shining in the field and leaving us with our mouths open.
“Although now I get a chill inside every time I think about each of those moments. A year of extreme care, a lot of rest, trying and strengthening the area.”
