Over the weekend The Sun reported Tottenham interest in Kevin Gameiro. The French striker is increasingly sidelined at Atletico Madrid and it’s been no secret in Spain that he’s available for transfer.
Everton and Swansea City have also been linked, but the former moved on to other targets and the latter have walked away due to a perceived high price.
AS take the Tottenham claims seriously and in their Monday issue go with a headline saying ‘Tottenham will make an offer to take Gameiro on loan’.
However, it’s explained the asking price for Gameiro is €30m and AS talk down the likelihood of a loan exit this month. Atletico are looking edge Nico Gaitan out as a priority but they’re not as desperate to see the back of Gameiro.
The French striker has stated more than once that he’s happy at Atletico, wants to fight for his place and will only go if the club tell him to.
Six goals from limited appearances this season help show the player is useful to have around and Diego Costa’s constant battle with fitness, he’s out once again with a hamstring injury, give another reason to keep Gameiro around.
So, if the interest is true, the message to Tottenham is: Atletico aren’t desperate to get rid of Gameiro, don’t want a loan, and will ask for €30m.
