Brentford’s Mads Bidstrup spent the second half of last season on loan at FC Nordsjælland and returned to the Danish club on a temporary deal in the summer transfer window.

The midfielder has been a regular for FC Nordsjælland, making 14 appearances this season. This had seen reports suggesting a move to FC Copenhagen.

Last week, the Brentford owned player admitted he is happy with the links, but his priority is to make a name for himself in the Premier League.

The 21-year-old has less than two years left on his contract with Thomas Frank’s side. It is unclear where he will play after this campaign, beyond the loan deal with the Danish club.

Bidstrup has revealed a meeting is scheduled in the winter, to talk about his future with Brentford’s leaders.

“I actually have quite a lot of dialogue with Brentford. I wrote to Thomas here the other day after Horsens match. We write a little together once in a while, but it’s mostly Brian Riemer [Brentford assistant manager] I’m in contact with,” he told Tipsbladet.

“We call each other and it’s really nice to have him to talk to and evaluate the games with. It seems like they’re really happy with how it’s going.

“We primarily evaluate from match to match. But here during the winter break, I’m going to meet with Brian and several others from Brentford, where we’re going to talk about what kind of things they see and what they’re thinking about me coming back.

“Do they think, for example, that there is something that I need to get even better at? Do they think I should have another year out? And then you have to look from there and have an ongoing dialogue.”

The Denmark U21 international made 14 appearances for Brentford since joining them in 2020. In order to continue his development, Bidstrup remains convinced he has to feature regularly, either at the English club or elsewhere.

“I left very early, which has taught me that you have to be yourself all the way through the process, and you really have to think very carefully before you make a decision,” the Dane explained.

“You must be sure that the place you go to is a place where you can feel comfortable and be given priority. There are many things that come into play in relation to whether it will be the Superliga or somewhere else.

“I am very keen that I should include myself and I should know that I will be prioritised. I can see now, for the first time in my professional career, that I develop when I play regularly.”
