Raúl Jiménez returned to Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier this month, after working on his rehabilitation in Mexico.

Last Friday, the striker told ESPN that he is ready to ‘step aside’ if he is not fully fit to make it to the 2022 World Cup.

El Tri are scheduled to play friendlies against Iraq and Sweden in Spain before heading to Qatar for the FIFA tournament.

The 31-year-old last featured for Wolves at the end of August. A report from ESPN says the ex-Benfica man has spent a week at the English club, where his physical condition was evaluated.

Wolves have noticed a ‘great improvement’ in the Mexico international’s recovery when compared to the results of the previous week.

After passing the exams carried out by Wolves, he ‘received permission’ from them to join the national team camp in Girona. ESPN add ‘this week is key’ for Jiménez, likely to prove his fitness and convince national team manager Gerardo Martino.

If Jiménez can manage to be ‘without ailments and reach his level’, Martino will include him in the squad. It’s claimed the striker has a ‘race against time’ since the deadline to announce the final list for the World Cup is November 14th.

Over at Infobae, they also explain Wolves have given permission to Jiménez to join the Mexico camp in Girona. This may indicate he would be close to reaching the World Cup.

They have a video of the player arriving in Spain on Sunday, where reporters quizzed him for an update about his fitness.

“Everything is fine, thank you,” said Jiménez, without providing more details about his recovery.
