On Monday, ESPN in Brazil stated West Ham United have returned with an improved bid of €18m for Wesley Gassova, after Corinthians rejected their first offer of €15m. It was also said former defender Naldo, working as an intermediary, is trying to convince them to accept the Hammers’ latest offer.
Later that day, journalist Jorge Nicola reported Corinthians are expecting €25m to part ways with the forward.
ESPN’s claim of West Ham’s new offer is relayed by O Tempo, who then share their own update on this case.
It’s claimed the Hammers’ attempts to sign the 19-year-old is the reason for the Brazilian club’s ‘headache’. At the same time, Corinthians are saying they haven’t yet received an official offer, which likely means it’s Naldo relaying the bids verbally.
Wesley’s deal lasts until December 2027 and O Tempo state Corinthians are emphasising that his asking price is R$500m [€91.2m].
The report adds they also fear the figures mentioned in recent reports could get into the player’s head and he could ask for a transfer. As well as West Ham, Real Betis have also shown interest in him but they just don’t have the money to compete.
Corinthians football executive Fabinho Soldado spoke to the media and Bolavip Brazil have relayed his comments.
When asked if Wesley is already the focus of talks between Corinthians and West Ham, he said: “Nothing concrete has arrived for us.”
