West Ham United are interested in Bologna’s Arthur Theate, with a move away from the Italian side a possibility this summer.
That’s according to Gazzetta Dello Sport, who West Ham’s ‘gaze has rested on him’ as David Moyes looks to bolster his squad.
The Hammers are in need of defensive reinforcements after struggling in that position this season after Angelo Ogbonna picked up a long-term injury.
That, coupled with Craig Dawson’s age, means they’d probably like more cover in that position, and Theate could fit the bill.
Gazzetta report that the Premier League is ‘paying attention’ to the Belgian defender, and Bologna consider him an ‘expendable pawn’ in the squad if they get the right offer.
That’s because there has been some tension with manager Siniša Mihajlović in recent weeks after the player was substituted at halftime in a clash with Venice.
West Ham’s gaze is said to have ‘rested on him’, and a deal with a base sum of ‘around €10m’ would see the transfer ‘take off’.
Whether the Hammers are willing to pay such a figure isn’t mentioned, but the interest is certainly there, as is the willingness from Bologna to let the player go.
