It seems the Portuguese media finally became aware of José Fonte’s move from West Ham to Dalian Yifang, as most of the local newspapers have stories about the transfer today.
It’s Record who comes with the most complete information, confirming that the defender is leaving the Hammers in a €5.5m deal.
Fonte is set to travel to China on Monday, so he should be available for West Ham’s clash against Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.
According to Record, Fonte will make €4m per season at China, and will try to get as much playing time as possible so he can guarantee his spot in the World Cup squad later this year.
Signed from Southampton in a €9.2m deal in January 2017, Fonte couldn’t really find the success he expected at West Ham.
He’d be leaving the club after 24 appearances, with the London side losing money on the player if the claims are correct.
