Matz Sels doesn’t sound very much like he fancies a return to Newcastle United. Spending this season on loan at Anderlecht, it hasn’t been completely straightforward for the 25 year old.

Anderlecht have been swapping around their goalkeepers but with Sels now more regular he’s open to continuing at the Belgian club. That would require an agreement being reached with Newcastle, and whilst Anderlecht may be content with another loan, the Premier League club could think differently.

Speaking to Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad, Sels had it put to him that he ‘has to go back’ to Newcastle at the end of the season: “Playing at Newcastle again is not clear.

“I am, in any case, open to everything. Of course I also want a conversation with Anderlecht and who knows, I’ll stay here longer.”

Sels is probably worried that he could return to Newcastle only to then again find himself out of the picture.

A possibility for Belgium’s World Cup squad, the goalkeeper told Het Nieuwsblad that he could wait until after the tournament to decide his future, believing it could have some sort of impact.

Anderlecht are thought to be keen to want a continuation, but the terms of any deal with Newcastle are likely to be the difficult part.
