Reece Oxford made his full debut for Augsburg on Wednesday, against Holstein Kiel in the German cup.
He’d played two minutes against Mainz in the club’s previous Bundesliga match, but this week the big test came. Moving on a loan deal from West Ham, there’s been much expectation.
And there’s also been some doubt in Germany, as Augsburger Allgemeine explain.
If Oxford was so good then why was he banished to West Ham’s U23 team? And, despite a lot of fanfare, he only actually made eight appearances for Borussia Monchengladbach.
Well, the newspaper are very impressed the player after his debut.
He was one of the good points for Augsburg, and it’s explained it’s now understandable that Gladbach ‘fought for weeks in the summer’ to get a permanent transfer.
In their way was the ‘exorbitant transfer fee’ West Ham demanded, which Augsburger Allgemeine put at €30m. That amount does seem at least a little on the high side.
Things look like they’re going well for the 20 year old on loan in Germany again.
